The start of the winter sporting period is always a busy time for allied health care professionals, and for the team at Physioworks Health Group the last eight weeks has been no exception.

In 2017, the Physioworks Health Group team are providing sports physiotherapy and allied health care, including training/match day support and ongoing injury management education sessions, for numerous professional and community sporting clubs and leagues, across a range of sports, including football (AFL), netball, basketball, tennis and cricket.

Football & Netball Clubs

Our Physiotherapy and allied health-care team are providing their expertise to numerous football and netball clubs this season:

Physioworks Health Group are the Sports Medicine Partner of the South East Football Netball League (including SEFNL Woman’s, SE Juniors, SE Netball), the West Gippsland Football Netball Competition (WGFNC) and Ellinbank & District Football League (EDFL).  Physioworks Camberwell clinic provides support to junior football club, the Ashy Redbacks; and Waverley Park Physiotherapy Centre (Physioworks Mulgrave) supports the Waverley Park Hawks Junior Football Club.

One key focus of our community football support is the Injury Prevention & Injury Management Education of trainers/coaches/parents. Over the last month, the Physioworks team have held five evening education sessions, across all our clinics, for each of our community league & junior footy club partners, to help best ensure the highest level of player welfare.

And the Physioworks Sports Physiotherapy team are constantly on the move in providing their physiotherapy expertise to their teams. Last weekend, Matt Lynagh (SEFNL) and Jack Mason (WGFNC) travelled with their respective Inter-League teams for the 2017 Victorian Championships. Ben Shipperd and Sam Mayes travelled with the Collingwood VFL team to Wangaratta, while David Francis was in Sydney with the Collingwood FC for their AFL game against the Greater Western Sydney Giants.

Basketball:

In 2017, Physioworks Health Group are providing Sports Physiotherapy and allied health care services to Casey Basketball (CBA); including the Casey Cavaliers; and the Pakenham Warriors.

Physiotherapists David Francis and Jack Mason, along with Exercise Physiologist Daniel Jeavons, recently presented to a well-attended Health Care & Nutrition Education session to 35+ Pakenham Warriors senior squad basketballers.

Tennis:

In late April, Physioworks Pakenham Soft Tissue Massage Therapist Phillip Boland travelled overseas to provide his expertise to assist Australia’s Federation Cup team to a great 4-0 away win over Serbia, which ensured Australia will return to the Top 16 World Group for the 2018 Federation Tennis Cup.

Cricket:

Sports Physio Matthew Lynagh has been working as the team physiotherapist to the Australian Cricket team with Intellectual Disabilities, including a 4 day team training camp at the BUPA National Cricket Centre in Brisbane in late April, in preparation for a 3 week UK tour in July when they will take on England & South Africa.

To help support winter weekend sporting participation across our communities, Physioworks Cranbourne and Physioworks Mulgrave clinics (Waverley Park Physiotherapy Centre) are open on Saturday (8am-12pm); while Physioworks Berwick provides injury triage and treatment every Sunday from 8am-12pm.

If the Physioworks Health Group sports physiotherapy or allied health-care team can assist you with any injury concerns, to help you to best participate in your chosen winter sport, please contact your preferred Physioworks clinic at www.physioworkshealthgroup.com.au
