Physioworks Health Group Sports Physiotherapist Matthew Lynagh has just returned from a 3 week tour of the UK with the Australian Men’s Intellectually Disabled cricket team
Matthew was in England with the team for the INAS Tri-Series against England and South Africa. The series was played over an intensive 3 weeks of matches, with a week of one day matches, followed by a week of 20/20 cricket.
The Australian team played well, but England were too good winning both events; beating Australia in the one day final, and then also beating South Africa in the 20/20 final.
Matthew reports an uneventful trip injury wise. “We only had one injury during the tour, a slight quad strain, which was fortunate, given the number of matches over a 3 week period” said Matthew.
Sports Physiotherapist Matthew Lynagh has a wealth of experience with cricketers as the current team physiotherapist for Cricket Victoria U18 and U15 Woman’s Cricket teams, position’s he has held since the start of 2015/16 cricket season. He is also team physiotherapist for the Open & U20 Victorian Women’s indoor cricket team, so he understands the duress for players of continuous matches on busy tours.
“Prevention and recovery were the key to getting through the tour without major injury. We were doing tailored Primitive Patterns and thorough warm ups and multiple hydro recovery sessions with ice baths daily” added Matthew.
